I got a new strut bracket to install, but I have to move the old strut's brass inserts. Any suggestions on how to get the inserts out? They are glued in place in the transom doubler. Is there a way to do it short of drilling them out? I'd like to avoid making even bigger useless holes in the transom. Thanks a bunch

You could try this

put 2 nuts on a screw that is right size for the insert

run the screw in then run the 2 nuts up to the insert

and jam them agenst the insert. the whole thing should lock together

try to back the screw out, but dont force it

if that fails warm the screw with a flame just a little will soften the glue

then give that a try

good luck

I use a bit of heat, 200 - 250 degrees will loosen locktite or epoxy, I use a soldering iorn, (no flame) & it works for me.........

Thanks for the tips. I got them out by snagging them with an oversized drill bit and driving them on through the other side.

I basically do the same thing but I put a scew in them and keep turning.

 OK, Preston, you don't have to rub it in :D
