I'm really upset to have seen the bearing thread get so out of hand. Honestly the thread started out as one of best how-to posts ever on intlwaters. It had pictures and everying. Because of 1 little phrase the author used the whole thing started to fly off the handle. I'm really upset with this and the behavior i've seen lately. Then their was Preston's how-to thread a while back.... started off good then all hell broke loose. This is stupid. I can remember a couple more lately also.

From now on when some tries to make a constructive thread please try to refrain yourself from destroying it. Just because you may not agree with everything said does not mean you have to attack the person for trying to do a positive thing. If you think you can do a better job then make your own dam post! It's a shame that so many great informative posts lately have been destroyed or discredited. This forum is really taking off and attracting new blood into the hobby. I don't think many will stick around long with that kind of crap.

I think I've had just about enough for a while.....

Tom, if you have to, start using the powers that you have. I'd hate to see it come to that but ya gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes to keep things from going off the deep end. I haven't really followed that thread like maybe I should have and I think that I remember the incident on Preston's that you're talking about. I may have been involved in that one as one of my postings in there had gotten misconstrued.

We are blessed on this site for having some of the greatest minds in R/C boating as members, some with a great deal of experience in many fields so it helps to learn what I (we) can learn from them. A pissing contest shouldn't have to break out, but rather give your opinion without bashing.

Now you know what Marty had to deal with for the past ahhh maybe 10 years. God Bless you in that you have not snapped yet. LOL

I just want to add some positive to this..I'm a new guy to this side of the hobby and have been an avid forum reader to many sites on the net...this site has some of the greatest info out there!!!!

I think this is the only forum that you can post and get an answer to your question almost before you can send it!!! Yes sometimes the posts sway away from the topic but generaly it's all good....

To all the folks who have answered my sometimes lame/newby questions THANK YOU...PLEASE KEEP THIS SITE RUNNING!!!! Thanks, Dean

Tom M is one of the most easy going moderators out there guys - I've seen him step in maybe twice in the 6 years I've been active on IW. For him to step in like this is not common practice by any means.....

Don't p1ss him off - we can't afford to lose him! He's a big reason why IW is the success it is today.

reading iwaters every day isin't as much fun as it used to be for me.

Here is a good forum practice that may help...before you post go back and read post #1 of the thread, if it isn't related don't post it.

Often we post in response to the last post.

Personally I don't think Tom will last long playing babysitter to a bunch of grown men. Let's all help him out and do our part, it's not that hard. Keep threads on topic, if you have something to express start a new thread. You have the freedom to discuss anything you want here.

Tom,

I don't know if you pay much attention to the viewing & posting habbits of members. I've been with Intlwaters for a good long while with only a few postings (it's not my goal to have the most postings), but if you check my posting history you'll see I "disapeared" for about 1.5-2 years, because of the postings I was seeing then (and you are seeing now). I recently became active in the sight again since I began seeing a lot of new blood (new members) but it seems the Pissing contests and chips on the shoulders haven't left the sight.

...And that's a shame.

There are many great, seasoned boaters out there who have a wealth to share. To all who read this don't hack someone because you see things differently. Tabling our ideas gives everyone the oppertunity to take the bits of info they want and leave what they don't.

As a newer member of this forum, it sickens me to think this forum is going the way of so many others. There is flat out nothing that will kill this hobby quicker.

In my opinion the solution is simple. Anyone found bashing, trashing or arguing with another members posts should be removed imediately.

Zero tolerance is the answer!!!

I realy appriciated Kevin's article on bearing maintainance and I hope he and other will write more like that. Untill reading his post I realy had never considered dissassembling the engine bearings, it just never occured to me to do that. The cool thing is now I know how to visually check my bearing for scoring and damage as well as cleaning it.

What happened to the article after that was----well, whatever. A few tangent thoughts and ideas are ok but even they could be in another post. I would recomend that the garbage be cut out of the post and Kevin's initial article be locked for future reference.

So, whose gonna be next to step up with a tech article? Nobody, thats who. Nobody wants to have there efforts and experiences picked to death.

Yeah, it sucks when a thread turns into a mudslinging or pissin' contest. But will it ever completely stop? Probably not. As long as you have anything that involves competition it will envoke passionate feelings, that's just the way it is. Doesn't matter if it's boats, cars, whatever, if a person is 1/2 way serious then they will have strong feelings one way or another on a given subject be it bearings, motors, boats, you get the idea. It's hard enough to have 10 guys in one room without someone disagreeing about something & here we pack almost 1,800 members into our cyber play room. Ken T. says "zero tolerance is the answer" well sorry that ain't it either as then it becomes someone's interpretation of what "bashing, trashing or arguing" is. Someone could easily interpret Chuck T.'s "it's not my goal to have the most postings" as a dig on those who do post alot. Did it bother me? Nope, but it could bother someone if they read it the wrong way. We are all guilty of trash talking at one time or another but that freedom of expression that Tom allows is one of the things that makes this site what it is. You start having a "forum Nazi" attitude & this site will lose the color & flair that makes it so much fun to be a part of. There will always be "chips on the shoulders", pissin' matches & the like, that's just human nature. I'm as guilty as the next guy of taking a hard line stance on something I truly believe in. The best thing we can do as members is go thru & read what you are about to post & think twice about the fallout before you hit the switch on the flamethrower. B)

Maybe we should have a "how to, on how to handle a how to?"

I know 2 guys that could do a "how to defend your how to......"

In the future when people start getting out of line….I’m going start pointing out that the post is “out of order”. And request that it get removed by whoever is moderating. I figure that if a person can’t be productive or constructive with a post…The post should simply be removed if it doesn’t meet the constructive/ productive criteria.

How about a "how to" section that is read only. No replies, no comments. If someone wants to "slam", they'll have to start a new thread. Just a thought.

I second this thought. Tom, here is a site that I go to that they have just that and if you want to educate yourself, you just read what is there already, posted all the time and you cannot post anything there. Just my 2-sense.

But if a person is able to slam by starting a new post does that not defeat the purpose. Isn't the idea to eliminate slaming all together?? <_<
