Came home from work today to find my boat trailer stolen from my driveway. Inside was my Thunderboat and Sport 40 (new NR 46 DD w/4 runs on it) along with most of our support equipment. Tables,chairs,spare tire, spare parts, etc.

P.S. I really want the Sport 40 back!

I had the hitch locked closed. Apparently it doesn't matter.

Hindsight being 20/20, I'm curious if there is a way to secure the wheels so It can be towed off, if that would even help.

Mike, this truly SUX!! Hope you get your stuff back unmolested, & the scumbags get some time.

Unfortunately, even with the wheels locked, booted, chained together or to the frame - a flatbed/rollback wrecker can winch it right on up, skidding tires & all. In the garage, or behind a tall fence with a locked gate would prolly be the safest way to store it. Not seeing the trailer cannot create the desire to steal it. Most theft is not planned, but rather a crime of opportunity. The more visible & the easier something is to access, the more you help that opportunity to exist.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Robin on this one. I saw some security camera footage of a pair of trailered Jet Skis being stolen. A group of guys in a little four door sedan backed into the drive of the house, one of the guys jumped in the trunk, grabbed the trailer's tongue and off they went. Took less than 30 seconds for the whole thing. Unless you have some way to secure the trailer so that it can't be moved, if it's visible, it's a target

I race Gokarts DragbikesTrailer theft is nothing new for us. The one bit of advice I can give. Don't leave anthing in your trailer your not willing to lose by theft while park at home. While traveling you need to do any thing to slow this guys down . Trailer it self tongue lock / remove one or more tires / Alarm . This is world we live in. I do hope you get everything back . My biggest fear going any where with my equipment was getting it rip off.

Buy a car alarm with a motion detection system , and a door trigger, My alarm sets off even if I forget to turn it off when I put the key in the lock, I have double sirens on it both inside and outside mounted so it would be very difficult to take out the sirens, also the lights flash when the system is messed with, total cost was about $200.00.at a audio store.

Walt's Hobbies Any thing you can do to slow them down. After losing two car's three times, getting prop ripped of the back of my bassboat . And no I don't live in bad naborhood. Bad guy's don't care what hood there in, they just want your sutff.

they make gps trakers to ...but by the time u get the tailer back everthing might be gone....i would go with walts idea of the car alram! i really do hope u find your stuff i really hate hear about the things we work to build come up stolen all the time....i remeber a pist a while back about someones window in there car being broke out and the boat stolen from the back seat.....seems like maybe gps trakers in the boat them selfs might be the best way to get them back....maybe built in to the boat where it cant be seen!

Remember: The idea is not to make it impossible to steal. That, in itself, is impossible. You're really just trying to make it easier for the thieves to go someplace else.

The lock Brad posted is good. A padlock through the coupler latch will only slow a thief down for maybe 30 seconds. A ratchet wrench & socket can unbolt the coupler from the bottom, drop it on the ball & bolt it back up. The BEST way i ever saw was a neighbor of mine raced go karts, & didn't have room in the garage for the trailer. We lived out in the sticks, & his house was not visible from the road, nobody close enough to hear an alarm. He would jack up the trailer, remove the tires & set it down on blocks. Took him maybe 10 minutes total with an electric impact, off & back on when ready. Seemed extreme to me at the time, but a few minutes work is well worth the security, IMHO.

No, Just waiting to see what happens witht the sheriff's dept. They told me they have electronic access to every pawn shops database in the area. I doubt their stupid enough to try to pawn it this quick. I think they just wanted the trailer. They can just take it to Kentucky and sell it to anybody. No license required there (from what I hear) and no questions asked. Most likely they were really disapointed it wasn't power tools. Filed a claim with my homeownwers and they will cover the contents as personal property but I have to prove value and ownership by pictures, receipts etc. Plus I have a deductible so I'm going to lose either way. Not sure if the trailer is covered or not yet. I'll be happy if I can get the sport 40 back intact. All the rest can be easily replaced.
