O.K guys and gals, I am new to FE. I just purchased a UL1 and a pair of 5200mah 40c lipos and also a venom procharger. My question is how many amps should I charge them at. Is there any special instructions like discharging after use? How often to balance etc. Thanks for the input. :)

1c or 5200mAh or 5.2 amps...

some manufactures say 2c, 3c or even 5c but that takes longevity away from the cells...

1c is the way o go.

welcome to the hobby

You should always use a balancer when charging to ensure all cells are charged equally and not overcharged. I do believe the Venom has the jacks in the side to allow for balancing when charging. You also run the risk of battery damage or fire when charging without a balancer

The limit of most chargers is 10 amps. If you have good quality cells charging them at that rate won't be a problem. Our club held its last race today and all the electric racers charged at 10 amps. The cells won't be good for much more than two or three seasons even if they sit on the shelf. Enerland states that the discharge rate determines the number of times their cells can be recharged. Even at the maximum discharge rate the cells can be charged 50 times. That's probably enough for two race seasons.

Ok so how do you convert the 1c 2c deal to amperage. The charger I have is set now at 5amps but I haven't charged the bateries yet

2C with your batteries would be 2 x 5200 or 10400 milliamps. That's 10.2 amps.
