Has anyone had experience with the Baracudda 128 ESC from Castle Creations? Is this somewhat comparable to the Schulz 40-60? Thanks.

the 125 doesn't even come close to to a 40-160. The 40-160 is the baddest of the bad right now. i wouldn't trade mine for anything. I don't own a 125 but, I know alot of people that do and it seems to be luck of the draw. either you get a good one thats bullet proof or you get a bad one thats isn't even dust proof. ie. plug and blow. Castle customer support is second to none but, I have had 3 Castles and they all failed on mild setups but, they also all got replaced for free.

if your looking for a high amp controller go with the 40-160 if your sticking to under 20 cells go with the BK 99 amp marine controller, or a schultz 18/129 or 149 or even the hacker 77.

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION WHICH IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE :D

Hey SCboatman,

the Schulze 40-160 is as Mr. Brooks says... Bad to the Bone if the $650.oo price tag doesn't bother ya!

i own two Schulze 40-160's only because i needed a V14 series to work with my Neu motor applications over eighteen cells, i might sell my V13 series 40-160 [bench tested only] never run...

make me an offer only if you [are not] planning to use it with a Neu motor... Hacker, Nemesis, Lehner, Aveox etc. will all work with the V13 series...

on the Barracuda 125 issue i've heard stories about failures but i've been running the Castle 80's and now the 125's for over two years total with zero failures... nada

this includes sport running, oval racing and three SAWS events, i guess i must be the luckest S.O.B. on the planet from all the hard luck stories going around about Barracuda 80 and 125 failures B) whatever...

Capt'n Ron

PS... i emailed you the hardware info. you asked for...

Thanks for the reply. The 40-160 is so expensive. Might have to sell some of my other projects to establish the capital. There was an interesteing thread on Rum Running that kind of talked about the same topic. Thanks again.

Capt Ron,

Appreciate the information. Unfortunately at this point I am still looking at the motor situation. I like the Titan 40 looks (so that is the hull). I am hoping to use the FineDesign Turbo strut that I have with a .150 flex cable. I also have a delux rudder from Fine Design. I like the carbon turn fins that you have. I did not get your email. Did you send it to [email protected]?

The motor and ESC are the two keys that I am having a hard time with (I'll bet eveyone does as well). I have two Hacker-77's, A Nemisis 14xl, 6 - Cell matched batteries, and 2 - 3700 14.8 volt lipo batteries. It sounds like if I were to but three of the 6 cell battery packs together with the 14xl and Hacker 77 would get me over 45 mph for at least three minutes.

If I deside to use the lipos at equal 24 cells, I will need to go with the Schulz 40-160 and go to a Lehner 2250....That will also get me right at 45 MPH for 3 minutes.

Does this sound about right?

Thanks again.

14xl and 18cells will not get you to the 45mph mark in a mono hull. You will need 24 cells to hit it.

A hacker 77 is good for 30 or 32 cells depending on the version you have. I run my older 77 will 24 cells without issue.

How do you measure the theoretical amperage draw of a mono with a 14xl on 24 cells?

Thanks in advance.

Titan 40

I think David of "DH Racing" put together one of those.

He used a Mega 2230/4 direct drive & 26 cells & Hacker 77 ESC & x640 prop, It Screams.....

I think it does exactly what you want from that hull.

Both 45 MPH & 4.11 Run Time too.

sold it to a guy in Florida.

Both guys can give you any info you desire..

P.S. I nicknamed it "Hyperactive", it truely was.

Hey Ron,

I'm looking to run a NEU 1521 1.5Y on 26 cells in a hydro. What kind of problems will i have running 40.160 V13 in this application. Suggested Dip switch settings?

Thanks,

KRJoye

Ken, you will not be able to run the Neu with your 40-160 v13 regardless of the DIP settings. You will requre the newer v14 software, otherwise the motor will cog and the ESC could be damaged. Schulze will update it - if you send it to Germany.... :(

Ken,

i use a 40-160 v14 series control with my 1521 1YF on 24 cells in my Seaducer FE-38 [sAWS] S-Mono...

my v13, as Jay stated will not work with Neu motors unless re-programed by Schulze...

Jay,

i understand you jumped thru these hoops and had a v13 of your own re-programed, if you can PM or email me with any first hand tips on ship'n my v13 back i'd be grateful...

Ron

Thanks for the feedback Ron & Jay

Titan 40! Sweet! Super easy driver. Point and shoot.

Are you looking to race it? Sprint or offshore? SAW's?

My favorite setup for offshore was a 13XL on a gear drive with 18 cells. I think 1.3:1 (ish) with a detongued 452. Nice ride. Fast enough. Nemisis on a gear is a lot cheaper than the 2250. Gears can be finicky until you get used to adjusting them just right.

I just setup a Titan29 with an 8XL on a gear with 18 cells. Never thought about sprinting with it. hmmm.... That's got potential now that I think about it. Stands on the prop for 4 minutes as it is.

Ron/Jay

I'm going to try using my H77 (new style 77/115) go easy on the props with the 1521/1.5Y. Theres a 75 amp max rating on that motor from Neu anyways. When i have good window i'll send the 40.160 for updating. To close to race season now.

Thanks,

Ken
