Somethings I was wrong about, some I was not.... let's start with the easy part:
Site slow today? Yep here is the reply from tech support:
Bandwidth:
I paid $10 for 5 more gigs of bandwidth for this month for a total of 15 gigs. so far we have used 9.4 gigs. so it looks like we would be down a day or 2 if i did not do that. We currently have some money left from donors that make that easy enough to do. I guess I will get in the habit of doing that if we need it.
Why 10 gigs of transfer? I believe bots are taking about 1 gig a month. I did misunderstand how much that one bad one was using. It was only about 1/3 gig total. The stats page is confusing. I guess it used 33% of the total of the top 30 visitors.... if that makes sense? I have blocked a bunch of ip addresses and it has helped.
I attached a graph of our site usage. you can see a nice pattern with week 1 2 & 3, then 4 5 & 6 it goes weird. now it seems to be in its normal pattern again. I believe their was something wierd going on, possibly bots, messing us up. Hopefully we are back to normal now.
we have been steadily growing for the last 6 months or so. maybe that is due to the season?
At this point I think I will just watch our usage/bandwidth and pay 10 bucks on months where it looks like we will go over.
