What pipe should I be using in an A mono with AA.21 engine?

That short AA pipe that matches the engine does not work very well because of the angle of the header

The pipe is just blowing exhaust back inside the hull

Can I bend the header up and to the side to get the exhaust flowing outside the boat?

Or should I be using a longer pipe?

Thanks

Derrick,

Yes you can bend the header a bit to help point the exhaust out of the boat. I usually take a couple sockets that have an O.D. thats close to the I.D. of the header, put them on extensions or handles for leverage, slip them into each end of the header, and gently bend it until it's pointing how I like it.

Because the end of the pipe is still a few inches away from the back of the boat, oil and exhaust still end up in the hull. To stop this I also take some radio box tape and drape it from the deck of the hull to the radio box under the pipe all the way to the transom. A few extra pieces of radio box tape keeps things MUCH cleaner.

As for the pipe, test a few to go faster, not get the exhaust out of the boat B) .

Hope this helps,

Brian

Derrick thats how I run it in my seaducer, turn or angle the header up as far as you can under the deck to get the pipe up as high as you can. I can send you pics of my setup if you want. When running at full throttle not much ends up in the boat. At the end of the day spray the boat out with brake clean and your all good.

I'm running an AASLS-21 with the AA pipe in a Seaducer 33".

I angle the header up as much as I can and to meet our Aus noise regulations I have a muffler fixed to the pipe stinger. That gets all the exhaust out over the radio box and away. It's pretty tight in front of the engine, but it works. No problems with blowing gaskets. I have the header slipped into the pipe which gives me a little bit of extra tilt capability.

Although not a AA21 I run either a Nova or OS VZ-M and ended up cutting the header 90 Deg after the exit and used a short piece of hard teflon to hold the two pieces together. Not pretty, but it works. The other header was made from softer aluminum and was twisted 20 Deg to angle the pipe up. I found the angle needed usually bent the header too out of shape though.

What I have always done is put in vise heat with torch, and insert a dowel as a lever to bend to desired angle being careful not to kink header.
