Any word on a solinger rudder w water pick up for JAE 12. I'm not thrilled with any rudders I have found, most even mini rudders are about 1" wide. The real nice tiny octura beryllium I've seen had the arm on wrong side, friend cut it off and silver soldered it to other side. I don't know maybe that one with K&S brass square tube soldered to the back. I like aluminum but maybe it wouldn't be strong enough as small as I would like.

Did find a mini strut that looks promising needs the bushing pressed out.

When using the Octura rudder you can use a Du-Bro 1/2-A control horn bolted on. On Gary Preusse's .12 'rigger, he uses a piece of 1/8" brass tubing soldered to the back of the rudder.

I've got several of those rudders already mounted on my .12 mono's and they appear to be able to bolt right on the JAE .12's bracket. If not, it wouldn't take much to convert.

That's where friends rudder came from.The octura fits the jae perfect.I have been looking at the mini cats usa videos their rudders are pretty much 1'' wide it doesn't seem to hold them little puppies back.Their not much different from speedmaster mini rudder blades.I could probably jb weld a tiny alum.tube on back of the solinger i don't think the .12nova will need much water. Any body know how thick the blade is? Trying to decide water or new air cooled nova- what blade ect.....Air cooled might be easier to keep tuned.

Also thought about prop blast p.u. I already have switch,antenna on the back now.

Mark, over the course of a entire year, the water cooled is easier to keep tuned. With an aircooled head you will most likely need a head with more cooling for the summer and one with less cooling for the winter. That means having to buy at least 2 heads and having to change them at some time during the year (it is never a good idea to take the head off a good running motor!). Plus, to get the inital tune means taking the head off and taking it to the hacksaw or lathe, then back to the pond to test and hope you got it right. With the water cooling adjusting it is as simple as changing the water restriction (I use a needle valve in the water line...super easy!).

If you want a water pickup built in the rudder, you may want to consider the cheap eBay ones ($16.95). I ran one all summer of my .12 and it was plenty enough blade... they measure 90mm long by 19mm wide. I had to have some steering dialed out so it wasnt so reactive. The pin tolerance holding the rudder leaves something to be desired though.

Solinger will never have a rudder for this boat with a water pick-up in it.....but

there is more than one way to skin a cat....

That was the purpose of this exercise was to get people thinking,designing and building for what they need.

Convert your motor to air cooling or use a prop blast system is another way to approach it.You could also

pick-up cooling water off the ski.

Take a look at this....It may work for you.

I must of missed that one. The one i saw you had to buy the bracket and blade seperate think it added up to $35.Kinda like these two items I guess

Save your money!! I bought one of those China made rudders on eBay. The rudder blade does not pivot on a continuous axis. leading edge is not parallel to the transom. The bottom of the blade is a few degrees from (off of) the center. There is a bit of slop in the holes where the pin anchors the rudder to the bracket. Although it is inexpensive.

Joe Petro now has a rudder with a built-in water pick-up on his site. You might be able ot cut off the wood brace for what they're using for Octura and Solinger rudders as it does come with a bracket.

I found another on the Fuller's Fast Electric's site also that might work.
