Friends, a few months ago I mentioned sone of the new small size Octura collets that are perfect for converting .12 size car motors with SG crank shafts for boat use. I have had the collets for .130" and .150" for awhile, but have just now received the ones for .062 wire drives! For those of you wanting to try the wire drive setup in your .12 boats this is the part you have been waiting for!

Of course these work perfect on my new Hotrod .12 motors that come with an SG style crank!

Cost is $12 each plus shipping.

Have a Merry Christmas!!

Mike, I make my own wires. They are simply a price of 1/16th wire with a 1/8th stub shaft soldered on. You may be able to get more info and pictures on one of the FE sites.

Mike,

Octura sells predrilled 3/16 stub shafts with an .062" hole in them. Just buy some .062 wire and a little Loctite and you are ready to run in several minutes.

Glenn, great to hear. Will grab one of those when you return from Holidays.

Hey TG! Hope everything is going good and you guys are getting ready for a great Christmas! I have tried all of the different kinds of locktite the FE guys use to build wires but none if them would work more than a couple seconds. I think it is the difference with the IC power pulse VS the FE smooth power.

I just use stainless tubing sivler soldered to the wire all the way through.

Hi Glenn,

It might be worth noting that the thread on the hot rod crank is different than the thread on the regular 12 motors. I seem to recall that one is 1/4" and the other is 5 mm. is that correct?

It is great that the 0.062 is now available for both motors. I have been soldering brass tubing on the wire at the engine end to get the wire OD to match the collets that were available.

Bob,

That is correct, I have both motors 1/4x20 and 5mm.

We found no advantage to the wire drive and still believe the .187" cable is the way

to go for Our boats. I would encourage you all to try different options and see what

works well for you. I will share some late fall testing with you: 1938's and 1640's are

Two very fast and heat racing propellers that I have been testing before we had our snowfall.

We are now working on pipes for our motors in the off season this winter.

Enjoy Testing,

Kevin,

I sure am.

The other shafts don't hold up pulling the propellers we are running now.

The hot rod 12 is a pretty STOUT motor. I would get one if you want to go faster.

That's right, I think you posted you have one? How is yours working for you?

What pipe are you running on yours now? Length? I can share with you all carbon

is the way to go once you get the motor up to speed.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund
