Few thoughts:

1) I thought Unlimited drivers were insane, drag boats are something else.

2) canopies / safety cells are probably the single best thing to happen to this caliber of boat. Without one there's no way he would have made it through that.

3) can those things turn at all w/o a skid fin? I'm assuming the rudder is there just to try to keep the boat pointed straight.

sad part is, that was a NEW boat. gear box failure, note 1 prop is spinning, the other isn't. the team came back & has absolutely dominated the class since then. they "stole" outriggers & pool noodles from us......

no turn fins, jim because (hopefully) it's a straight line pass.....BIG brass kahunas on those guys - mid 5 second pass at 270+ mph!! oh yeah, they shortened the track to 1,000 ft to slow them down  . the driver, daryl says he takes no credit for the team's sucess "he's just the monkey holding the wheel"

the pro mod class ( blown alky hydros) really amazes me. they (all classes) hold onto a rope stretched across the starting line about 50' away from the start tree, aim the boat & close the capsule. the tree starts, they have to time the tree/lights counting down to hit the start at full tilt & run on a 7 second index. i've seen 7.001 sec. passes with .004 reaction times. that's DIALED IN!!!
