Well then step on in to Dons Hobby Shop.

Dons hobby shop is a 1970s based hobby shop in my basement that has all the good ol stuff you remember when you were a kid.

Control line planes

Rockets

Slot cars

Free Flight planes

Boat Kits

Motors

Paints

And lots and lots of parts..

Dons Hobby Shop is a tribute to the hobby store that was in the small town that im from. Don had a huge impact on my time as a kid and helped me whenever he could. Most of the time I would stop by when he was eating and he would get soooo pissed at me…Stop opening all the matchbox cars up.. he would say.. you can see what they look like on the box..

Or I would get a good lesion on applying tissue or silk span and the ins and outs of using this stuff…Now I can say that im a master at it… Don is still alive but not doing good. He is in a rest home and is still as grumpy as ever.. he can not talk anymore but if he could he would be crabbing about something or teaching me something…same thing when you are a kid..

Grim,

Is it a requirement that all hobby shop owners must be grumpy????

Mine used to be so mean, total alcoholic and a bastard. The stores still in business today though. I guess only the mean survive...

Wasn't silkspan one word back then? Sniffing all that dope is the reason we are racing boats now :D :D .

Jerry

You mean i should stop sniffing Dope??

Speaking of sniffing dope, have you ever smelled cocaine?

Huh?

The hobby shop that I grew up with was in the back of a corner drug store/soda fountain. They had mostly .049 stuff, gliders and plane kits, props, fuel and just the basic requirements ta get ya going.

But were happy to order anything ya need, Kinda a mom and pop operation.

Gene :D

That's cool you have memories like that. My LHS the guy was more like a horror story of memories than good memorable one's. Funny thing, back in the late 70's early 80's the guy was the biggest bigot you'd ever meet. Always had some racist jokes. Now he's dating a black girl! Ironic ain't it.

Terry

Most of the stuff is stuff that i have collected over the years.. It has been a goal of mine for quite some time to have Dons Hobby Shop and so a collecting i did go..

Some of the stuff really came form Dons hobby (like my 1958 Thimble Dome Olympic 15.. the red and blue anodizing is great.. to this day one of the tightest machined model motors ever made).

Other stuff like my UC planes came from my days involved in the hobby.. A plane from Fred, and plane and speed pan from Bill…

Another place is another shop called Dons in WI.. Don has all kinds of old stuff… lots of old boat junk.. most not good for anything.. but good stuff for the Dons Hobby Shop.
