I picked up a new fantom .15 for my ff12. I don't actually have it yet but I see a small section of un-threaded shaft sticking past the front of the engine. I don't really plan to use a flywheel since it has a pull start unless I need it to help with launching or idle. Will this crank shaft work ok? Will I need some sort of spacer in there?

Reccomend a collet?

Thanks guys

Tony

Yeah, you got a Fantom with an SG shaft. You're going to have to cut that part off. Wade says to use a 7mm collet. I've got 2 Fantom's now, both .12's with the standard shafts. Did you buy the one that was on eBay?

Even though it has a pull start, you still need a flywheel.

Yeah, I bought the one off ebay. I thought $73 was a good deal on the new engine. Looks like I'll be asking one of the machinists out in the shop here to help me. Is it ok that the shaft is not threaded all the way down? If I need to thread that I'll probably just re-sell the engine. That would be tough. How do you like your fantoms? From my readings they seem pretty nice. Bushed crank,... I suppose it should be ok for a .15. Rated at 1.35 hp... Should be plenty

Could one of you guys explain to me exactly what I have to do with the crank now.

Thanks

Thats a great deal for that engine.

Fantoms scream, a flywheel, I would start looking, i Know they say some fit these type engines, and these fit those,

See what kind Ron uses.

Ron? What kind do you use?

Tom

I've been using the O.S. flywheeels on mine. Most any from Manufacturers that make .11-.18 engines should fit. I also have some from Pro Boat (the Miss Bud), CEN Racing, Octura and ABC Hobbies (a bad fit though, it works better "backwards"). With the SG thread, you might want to find one that's as narrow as possible near the shaft or have a Machinist thin it out in that area to grab as much thread as you can.
