Does anyone have any reviews on the A90 motor? Who sells them? Do they perform? What is the parts availability? Etc

guilderoy,

I have been using A-90HP's for a few years and am very happy with them. They are well made and very powerful, especially with the right mods and pipe. Recently I have been using one in a rigger that I have had on radar at 80mph with very little development.

In Australia I have been getting them from Craig Chenco, and have not needed many parts, but he has been able to get them.

However they are probably the most complicated motors I have had to work on. They have a very unique design, which is very strong and performs well, but the downside of this is they are more complicated than many motors. I dont know how much experience you have, but there may be simpler choices if you are relatively inexperienced.

Learning the motor will take time i guess. How do i get in touch with that guy down under?

Hi Guilderoy,

Go to my web site, www.cwiinc.com/engines to learn more about A-90sand 100s

Cheers Mike

Ian,

Will you be letting me in on some of the mods that you have done, or do I have to blow up a couple trying? ;D

I've been using this engine in my cat (stock speeds around 60mph on 40%), and I must say it is very impressive each time it goes out, but always looking to go a little faster.

Thanks.

Andy

Andy,

Good to hear you have got it going okay after all the trouble you had fitting bearings! 8)

Work is restricting my boating at the moment (damn work! > :( ), however I have a brand new A-90HP now. It is my intent to buy a digital camera soon, and then do a bit of a photo essay on what I do to the motors and post it here. There doesn't seem to be a lot of that info about. :- It will be a month or two before I can tho!

Nitrocrazed racing: Also always looking to go faster!

Ian,

Keep me informed! ;D

I would like to know what I can do to go faster, but not blow it appart. It seems to like the 40% more than the 15% I was running, but not sure what mods the engine is able to handle.

Thanks.

Andy

You should hear some of the great remarks I'm getting at the lake about this engine. I think there will be a couple more out there next season.

Craig Chenko a.k.a. Eat My Shorts Racing should be on his way back to Oz now. I do have some pix of his A-90's, nothing up close though.

Andy,

They can handle quite a bit if treated right. I sold one of my modified engines to a fellow club member last year and he runs it almost every weekend and it is still going strong!

The head volumes vary quite a bit from what I have seen, so it is hard to say what the limit of nitro will be. I make my own heads to suit 25%.

Have fun!

Ron,

Did the motor in the mono still have a very dark red colored head? Craig ran that one without water once! :p : :)

Ian.

Ian,

Yes that is the same engine!!! Still running after 3 years!!! No blow ups, still fast, still stock except for head button and induction timing. The timing was changed between the oval time trials and SAW at Detroit...

EMS Racing Too lazy to modify

Craig,

You should treat yourself to a newer one. The newer ones have a larger disc for better flow. 8)

Good to hear it is still going tho! ;D

The mod obviously helped! 8)

Nitrocrazed racing: I cant even spell stokc...
