Thanks to my friend Jerry he managed to get some really good pictures of my rigger at the lake today.

I sure have some questions about your 6s rigger. In running my SGX 6s rigger it took a while to get the correct ESC that would hold up to the heat generated by the batteries and motor. It required a Castle ESC to hold up to the heat. Is your boat a 60 size SGX? I have a longer tub similar to the SG.

Can I ask what size prop you are running on the 6S riggers?

Cheers Nigel.

My setup is as follows:

Eagle SG 45 with radio box bulk head removed, widened single rear ski.

Motor Lehner 2250/7

Esc MGM 28026

Batteries turnigy 2X 3s 5000mah

Weight 3.5kg.

I've had a play around with several hydro props but they give too much lift causing the tail end to bounce on the straight scrubbing off too much speed, the best props so far have been the octura X and M series, with the M447 being the best for all around speed and efficiency.

The setup is very very tight for space as you can see in the picture below, I had to select the esc very carefully due to lack of space, the MGM28026 fitted perfectly.

for comparison, this my 6-s rigger . vac formed abs. during the video, high speed camera showed boat out of water . hope it helps with your set-up.

Thanks for the video John, the picture don't really tell the full story of the boat, the conditions on the lake were quite choppy and simulated race conditions quite well, the pictures I chose to post were the dramatic pictures that make good viewing, the other 50 odd pictures where boring to look at in comparison as they where similar to the 3rd picture I posted. Speed wise I am not sure, but would hazard a guess at high 60's.

Steven,

I run a near identical power system in my Q hydro, but use much larger props. The larger props help the boat hook-up and stay settled. Try a 1450-1460 or or a 1650. The Eagles tend to like the Octura 14 and 156 series props although X series props will work.

thanks for the info Tyler

I tried the 1450 on sunday but found the back end was bouncing down the straight, not having my tool kit with me to adjust the strut i changed over to the X and M series which seemed to work well so i stuck with them for the day, next time i will make sure i have my tools so i can make adjustments needed.

Hi,

wy do you search a prop that will not lift the boat ? Wy do you not counteract this lift by a small wing obove the prop ,adjustable to set a little downforce ,just to lay down the back . And if the front still gone wild do the same at the sponson or if you like at the centerbody.

It's not forbiden to do that . I counter straight propshaft with high lift prop this way . But ste the wing not behind the prop to force the front up.

See pic a old wing ding with straight shaft run clean with the wing . With no wing the rigger was not driveable.

Thank you Christian, my boat runs really smooth and with the the X and m series props due to my setup on the boat, I am sure if I set the strut level I will be able to run the 14 and 16 series props without any bouncing on the rear end.

Cheers

Steven,

Most of my 14 and 16 series have some cup in them which holds the back down. My dedicated Q boat also has more tail weight compared to my 45SGX which runs similar props. Judging by your motor position you should have a fair amount of tail weight. Sounds like it will just be some propwork.

I'll have to have a look at what I have in my prop box, I have a lot of 14 and 16 props, some stock and some modified.

Yes the tail weight is a lot heavier than my 45SG. I'm running a single rear ski which is wider than the stock ski

When you run a 1455 what sort of amps are you pulling on the Lehner 2250/7 motor?

Steven,

I don't know the weight of my Q boat offhand, but its probably around 8lbs ready to run with the Lehner and a 6S5000mAh battery. With the 1455 I was pulling around 165A average. With a 1657 I was pulling 225A average, but this was for a 2-lap set-up.

We run rear sponson on our Q boats and see much better handling characteristics compared to the single ski or no ski/sponsons.

Thanks Tyler

At least I know I'm in the right ball part with the weight, mine comes in just under 8 lbs.

I will have to have a look at making up a set of rear sponsons for the SG, when I made this ski I was very temped to make a set of sponsons instead, but with time constraints I opted for the quicker ski option. I might have another look at them in a few weeks time. Do your rear sponsons sit at the same level or do the run different height like the Taipan rigger.

I've got a couple of weeks before I'm able to get to the lake again so, I'll give the 1455 a run and see how it handles.

Steven,

From memory we run the front and rear sponons so the tub is level when on a set-up board. The bottom of the strut is usually about a 1/16" above the rear sponsons.
