I will be doing the 94 Smokin' Joe's hydro. I have paint codes for the white, yellow and violette. I see there is a red stripe down the deck and on the canard wing and need this code. Thanks for the help.

It's not red, it's fluorescent orange.

Isn't that normal for the "Joe's", orange mistaken or, more correctly, misinterpreted by camera film for red?

Oh yeah it was a big problem back then. Before I had a hard drive fail a few years back I had a few pics from a professional photographer of the full deck Winston Eagle who shot the boat on the same day using different film types and shutter speeds to show how radically it could change. Some pics were spot on showing the correct day glo (fluorescent) orange while others with different film and shutter speeds made the boat look solid red. There was never a solid red Winston Eagle!

It was fluorescent Red.. But faided out and looked orange...
Supposedly the DuPont paint color name at that time for whatever reason was fluorescent red but it was orange. That came directly from a former U-10 crew member (wish I could remember his name) when I was researching getting ready build my Winston lobster boat. He also told me how happy they were when they switched to the Smokin' Joe's paint scheme. Said they hated the orange because it was **** near impossible to touch up and not have it look like crap. Somewhere around here I have photos of the very first test session of the lobster hull and it's definitely orange.

I remember seeing the winston display boat in seattle, the flourescent red was so faded from the sun it looked matt and you could rub your fingers on it and write your name.

Talking with Steve Wohmar he told me it was Day Glow Red. from the House of Color..This was in 1991

It's very much HOK Neon Orange. There is a video on youtube of the full size running, very much orange. I used HOK SG103 Molly Orange when I built mine. It gives you the correct color, without fading like a neon does:

Day Glow Red came from the House of Color witch was developed by Arlen Ness ...He from Dublin Cal.. that where I bought the paint for my Winston Eagle...

Many of the turbines use that strut or one very similar to it with the prop completely behind the transom
