Hmmmm good question. I just bolted the rudder on and ran it. Seemed to be ok without being cut down. Although there seems to be a trend to have the rudders as short as possible I havent seen too many hassles in leaving the rudders at full length. And I think too much rudder is better than too little rudder. Real hard glueing the bottom of a rudder back on in my experience.
As an example my Seaducer 90 also still has the full length rudder on it which is about an inch deeper than the plans specify. Still very competitive boat (won straight line and overall 2nd in IMPBA 2003 Nats). Stockish A90 so it has reasonable power but not a "full house mod" engine so by that I am assuming the extra rudder depth is not too much of a limiting issue.
Having said all that I suppose the best I can do for you is to a) go and read the instructions (yes I still have those) and see what they specify and B) go home and measure mine coz mine does handle like it is on rails.
Will get back to you with those answers and many more.... or maybe just those answers
Hey Tim are you going to the race this weekend in Collingwood if you are can you bring your radar gun i'd like to see how fast some of the boats are really going.
