I have been thinking about going electric on my 48" ML Boatworks mono but I'm not sure what motor to run.

I'm thinking either a Leopard or SSS in the 56mm dia. range but not sure which length. 105, 114,123mm etc.
I'm thinking an ESC in the 300 to 400A range should work.
I'm trying not to break the bank is why I'm thinking of either a Leo or SSS motor and maybe a Flier ESC. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088WLTWL5...v_ov_lig_dp_it
or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0832CZZYT...v_ov_lig_dp_it

From what I have read most are fairly happy with the Flier ESC.

I'm guessing for props I would start somewhere in the 65mm range?

I want to run it on 12s to be able to use the existing 6s 5000 packs I already have so I would guess the KV should be around 700 to 800kv?

Anyone using the Leo or SSS 56xxx motors on 12s?

What props, hulls, and ESC.s are you using.

The boat has a 30+ gas engine in it now so I would simply just get an electric mount for the 5" rails and fit it in the boat is my plan.
Any insight greatly appreciated.

I've been doing a ton of searching and really haven't found too much on these motor and esc setups in that size of hull.[IMG alt="Click image for larger version.

Won't be for racing or any sort of competition just playing around but I hope to get at least 60 mph out of it.
Thanks guy's.

Hello Chris,

Selecting a 56mm size motor is a good place to start. You will want to target 18-20kRRPM at 3.7V/cell to use your existing gas size props. You probably want to look a little lower in the kv range between 500-600kv. Going higher will mean smaller props in the 50-60mm range.

Some motors to consider:

TP5670 or 6580
Leopard 5698 or 56110
SSS 5692-56123
Tenshock 5360
Neu 2225-2230

The Flier's are a little iffy. Some work great but others are inconsistent and fail quickly. SF300, MGM40063 and ZTW Seal G2 300A are alternative options.

If you are only running 12S1P you will want to keep your amperage below 150A, which still should be plenty of power on 12S, but keep the lipos happy.

Thanks Tyler, yeah that math does make more sense and then I wouldn't have to start all over with different size props.
I've been trying to find a ZTW G2 but they seem to be out of stock where I've checked so far. I'm not in big hurry though so for now I'm just trying to pick peoples brains and get some insight on what way to go.

I have a Gizmo 30+ engine in it now and its running great but I blew a couple up in the last few weeks so I thought for the hell of it I'd throw an electric motor in it and play around with it.

I have a couple other FE's, a mono and a hydro so I'm fairly familiar with them just never messed with the big ones yet.

Really appreciate the info.

I used a 56mm tp power when I did the prototype...tons of power. Put your CoG around 35% or maybe even more. I was on 10s lipo, 10400mah, ZTW 300amp esc. Hope this helps, Mike

BTW, if you need another hull built just for FE let me know as I am currently fully caught up on builds!

SSS 56123 500kv for $160 new

you do not need a big ESC. you are not going to be running 12s at 400A. that would be about 17,000w. You will pull somewhere in the 150-170A range at most. Good batteries have a real world 25c-30c capability. cheaper batteries 15C. thats based on IR measurements. so 12s with 650g batteries are capable realistically of about 6500w-7500w.

I have experience with 2 flier esc's and its been wonderful. they are really nice with large caps and big wire. I have a 240A 3-16s I would sell. I used it about 5 months in my 12s cat and switched to gas. has 8mm connectors all around.

Is it an optical illusion?
Is the blue boat smaller than the burgundy boat?
Measurements of the 2 please Mike.
