Hey Don! all! Got a buddy with a gold head 45 in his spt40 sport racin at our pond.. the motor will run high rpm (on the pipe) for about a lap..... then it seems like someone flipped a switch, and the motor loses rpm to about mid throttle and no more.... boat sat for awhile.... oiled and stored nicely... you guys thinkin bearing or what? checked lines for water, fuel system is tight, operator says no change with 3rd channel needle one end to the other, aint leanin out plugs are good... any help appreciated thanks mike

Mike,

I would tell your friend to send it to Rod Geraghty. He will fix the problem

for sure. We had a guy in our club a year or so ago with the same problem.

I can't remember now the fix,but it was several things that made it run really

well again. Rod will make that motor perform better than that guy has ever

seen that motor run. It is a case and bearing problem I think.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

If it has the original piston and sleeve in the gold head 45 and the motor runs for about 2 laps then it sounds like it locks up this is a common problem.

Mine did the same thing until the piston was run in (about 1 gallon of fuel) then it ran fine. I was frustrating as hell though. I could run all day at 1/2 throttle but when I got into it it would onlt run about two laps then pop/stop. Go get it and hte motor acts like nothing happened.

I'm running the new version piston and sleeve now and they don't have this problem due to a new design.
