Here's the next update. I glassed the hatch with 2 layers of 50 gr/m2 glass weave:



I added the connectors to the motor and esc. 5mm bullets on the motor wires and a XT90 for the lipo:



I made my own turn fins from aluminium and carbon fiber:







Next up is making the hatch fastening and adding the trim tabs.

The Wildthing is ready for it's maiden run. The receiver is installed and the esc is set. I hope to run it this weekend

Today was the maiden run and she runs pretty good already. No trim tabs, no strakes.







I got 57.5mph with short bursts of full throttle.
Now the fine-tuning starts. Cornering speed could increase still.

The second time out with this boat I reached 64mph with a 443 prop. I gained 6mph just by using a better lipo.
This boat absolutely screams



Before the run, I replaced the rudder blade with a 2mm carbon fiber DIY rudder blade. The aluminum one got bent the first time.

Thank you Dave. I sure enjoy this boat. It's my first fast FE mono as well, so I'm learning on how to setup these hulls.

i raced 21 nitro wild thing for years, fun boat, i like the hatch idea, when my wild thing came close to 60mph it got a bit loose, i bet the hatch would have calmed it down. a wood rudder bracket!, never saw one of those, really cool

Thanks John. The wooden rudder bracket is an experiment to see if it holds up. It does have a few layers of glass to reinforce it. So far so good, it survived a few crashes already.
Im interested in your setup; did you run trim tabs? How about strakes? I experience some instability, mainly due to torque roll. I don't use trim tabs and strakes yet, but I'm now in the process of making strakes.

Next is to paint a cockpit window, apply some decals, 2k clear coat and then install the hardware. Next Friday I will join a rc powerboat meeting here in the Netherlands. It has to be finished by then

The Wild Thing is finished! I took it to a Dutch RC Powerboat event this weekend. I had a great time

Today I tried a 44mm 1.6 pitch 2 blade prop. The Wild Thing ran a bit loose due to the prop lift. But also fast! A got a new speed record of 71mph or 114km/h.


This pond is definitely getting too small for speed running . Here's a video of todays' run:
