Hi All.

I'm starting to build my first mono hull. It's a Dumas Mach 3.5, 30inch hull, 11inches wide, fiberglass. I'd like to make it an inboard. I'll most likely be using a .21 engine which I don't have yet. I'm looking for hardware for it. More so, I am looking to find exactly what hardware I'll need for it.

I know Dumas makes a hardware kit for it but I was hoping I can find some that may be better (nicer) than that.

Are there any good sites you may direct me to where I can find out what hardware I'll need? Any sites where I may purchase the hardware would be a great help also.

If anyone has any hardware they're looking to unload and I can use it... please feel free to email me with a price.

If you can think of anything I'll need (other than radio equipment) to get this project off the ground please let me know.

Thanks for any and all help.

Tough choice, Both speedmaster and seaducer are very good. I would lean more towards the seaducer, you can get the kit for the mono 20 and its got it all.

i think for about 139 or so.

WS- I only got the Dumas hull because it was what was availiable when I started looking for a mono hull. I probably should have done more homework because I will admit that I bought the hull on a whim. Is there much difference between a "shallow hull" compared to other hulls, for instance a deep vee????

Thanks for the links to seaducer and rossi. Both have some nice looking hardware. I see I'll have a lot of choices to make. With the rudders alone there are 3 different 20 sized rudders to choose from (length, angles, etc.). ???

I'm thinking before I decide on a hardware package I should decide what engine I'll be using. I'll probably go with some sort of basic/stock marine engine. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Gene,

Basicly, a deep V will be able to handle rougher water, but are more pron to chin walking. Most would agree that the deep V is a much better hull style for heat racing because the water gets choppy durring the race.

It really depends on what you want to do with it though. same with your engine & hardware choice, it really depends on what you want to do with it. Raceing? Sport? Also depends oh your budget.

Whelp, I usually run on my own. Sometimes with a friend. I dont do any competitive heat racing or anything of that nature. For me it's just sport.

As for the budget, being I have the hull and radio gear already I'll ballpark about $250 -$300 for the engine, running gear, radio box and incidental building equipment that may be needed.

Well in that case, you should be very happy with a shallow V because the are more stable. You will have to post some pics when you get it done. ;D

gene,

i've got Aeromarine .21/.40 hardware on my .21 mono [which is a pretty shallow vee] and it works very well, i like the big rudder alot, it sure as heck doesnt slow the boat down much, and if you're using a dual rate radio you can set it to really turn on a dime.......and then just set it back for nice, smooth oval racing! speedmaster hardware also gets very good feedback around my club, especially the strut. what engine are you thinkin of?

Joe,

I'll most likely be looking to get a K&B 3.5 or something along them lines.

I did look on the aeromarine website and they seem to have some very nice hardware which I can use.

Also I may post something in the for sale forum and see if anyone is looking to part with an engine which I can use and / or maybe some hardware.

gene,

if you're looking to save $$, try to get a used Picco, Rossi, Nova Rossi, or CMB.....for the same price as a new KB you can get a strong engine with at least 2 seasons left in it [plus, after the 2 seasons, another 100$ and you've got a like-brand new racing engine!]

the nicer engine wont have to be broken in, and it'll run much harder and faster. when you've got a boat ta try, PM me about a prop. ive got a bunch of .21-sized ones, by tha time you've got your boat i'll have found the perfect one, so im sure i'll have one i can sell to you for cheap.

Joe

Lax, Thanks for the offers with the props. I'll take you up on it when it's time.

Thanks for the info on the engines also, I'll see what used ones are availiable.

i have a question for you all that can help i too just bougth a shallower style v hull for a 21 but what size flex shaft is sufficient for this style of a bout i want to use it for sport running and a few weekend races against friends, any help would be greatly apriciated and you can email me at [email protected]

.21 engines can use .150 flexshaft w/ a 3/16 stub. If it's a "mild" .21 (1.5HP or less) you could even go down to .130 flex.

Most of the guys on our club run the 3/16 cable end-wleded to 3/16 shaft just because it's more common and replacement parts are easier to find.
