Hey Guys,

I've been contemplating trying different rudders on my seaducer .21 mono. Currently i've been running the recommended speedmaster "tapered" rudder at the proper length, and it runs great. But i would like to try the speedmaster mini rudder. Has anyone tried this? And if you did what was the difference between the two?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew Grenier.

I run the speedmaster mini rudder

I use to run a longer tapered speedmaster one like you mentioned but i found that there was some serious drag. The origional seaducer rudder as cut to short. The boat was second hand so nothing i could do. I tried and tried that rudder but i found it would spin out to easy on the short rudder. Went the speedmaster tapered on and cut it to correct length - the boat just pulled hard to the water. Very heavy spray out the back.

Put the mini on and have not looked back. Boat goes well, speed is super handling is fine. Nothing wrong with it.

Give it a go you will like it.

Im running a nova 35+ in my mono. Nice and fast and that rudder handles it fine.

Ya I've got a spare mini blade, so I think when this frozen water stuff goes away i will have to give it a go! I had a problem in the past where the boat would want to veer to the right, causing me to correct to the left. Which then made the hull lay over on it's side.... that make the boat do some funky things. I was thinking back then that maybe something was up with the rudder or mount. But never really got into it.

Thanks for your advice.

my SD3 does the same shim the strut on the right side until the boat goes strait and the problem will go away. i run the original rudder i sharpened it to hell and cut it down to the right lenth

It wouldn't hurt to give it a try. I've never had a Seaducer, but a mini rudder doesn't work well on a Speedmaster. When I had a mini rudder on my Valvola powered .21 Speedmaster it would torque roll over on it's side down the straightaway. No amount of trim tab adjustments would level the boat out, and it was a real handful to control in race water. My older Nova powered Speedmaster doesn't do this in the straights, and the tabs on that boat are at a neutral setting. While contemplateing the variables between the two boats, due to the hull design change, and the pipe on the Nova being off to the side versus centered on the Valvola I noticed that my older boat had a standard size .21 rudder...so I swapped them. I't cured the torque roll on the Valvola powered boat, and doesn't create anywhere near the amount of drag that feeding in large amounts of left rudder to level the boat out did.

Have you used the Seaducer rudder on that boat that is the one you are suppose to be using not speedmaster. I do have a Accu Tech rudder i sell you it is thinner same length as Seaducer dont go to mini rudder not enough rudder in water for a mono.

Hey,

Yea way back when i had the 29' SD3 i shimmed the strut to take care of the boat running towards the right. But when i ordered the new longer hull i decided i didn't want to do that. The hardware that im running on it, i bought from Jerry when i bought my first seaducer a few years ago... i always assumed it was the same as speedmaster? Looks the same. I'll give the mini rudder a shot and i'll sharpen the sh*t out of the rudder. Give her a whirl in the spring i guess.

Thanks for you help guys!

Andrew
