This is the first of 2 or 3 threads I'll post to review .21 rigger props from Mark Sholund. Some of you guys probably read my other thread on my 21 rigger I built. There were some questions about props and things. Mark was kind enough to send me these props to test. The props are not free, but he sent me a few to test, buy what works for my set up and send the rest back. I have not been able to test them all yet due to some bad weather that came through and did some damage to my house,.. but I'll get them all tested soon.

These images show the props and the data that comes with each one. These props are as nice as any I have ever seen, and having the exact data on them really helps..

From these props it's clear that Marks testing shows that a diameter of appox 45mm is working well. I like the ability to test 2 props that have a very similar cup but different COB pitch.

Hello Anthony. you have a very good selection of propellers to test. My favorite props from that group are the H-5 and the 1445s. Let us know how your testing goes. Have fun. Richard D

I was able to make a short trip to the lake today. It's a cold and windy day,.. but cool dry air makes good power..

I did not get enough time to really make good comparisons. My cop buddy didn't show with radar either. I will have time next week to get more detailed data but I do want to share a few things.

I have had enough time to get the boat sorted out a bit and the engine broken in. The boat is based on a JAE21, just a little over 3 pounds. After taking the advice of many people here I have made significant gains in speed.

Engine is NR 5port w/ about 0.01 head clearance, 3280 pipe at 7 7/8 and 50% fuel.

I don't have actual mph or rpm but what I did find is that this combination of boat / motor / pipe and fuel, pulled every prop I put on it with authority! The lower pitched props did jump back on the pipe instantly while the higher pitched props lagged a bit but had considerably higher speeds. I had no issues with hop at all. I do have about 1-2 deg negative on the strut. My setup is not a real high rpm setup so the higher pitched props worked well and still launched very easily.

I did see that the H series props seemed to make the boat run a bit more loose than the 1445s. The H props I ran today had more pitch than the 1400's for the most part and where faster, maybe the speed had the boat running a little more loose. I would like to better understand the lifting characteristics of the H series compaired to the 1400 series.

I will get more detailed information on the drive-ability of each prop when the wind calms down a bit this week,.. and the temp comes up a little..

But from an initial, very quick test session, EVERY ONE of these props worked very well in this application.

It is clear to me that when Mark tells me he's done the testing already, it's true. Thanks Mark for the opportunity to test these awesome blades!

I'll try to answer any questions anyone has..

Thanks

Anthony,

I have more propellers if you want to test more.

If the boat can handle more propeller I have plenty here.

You may want to try some H-7's or 1450's next.

It sounds like you are starting to find your set up.

Let me know what you would like to test next ?

Thanks For Posting,

Mark Sholund

Tony,

More on the way, they should be their at noon. I hope you have better weather

to test this weekend.

I took these notes from another post that I had. This is the appropriate place for them.

Yesterday I only tested the H7. I don't have the exact specs on this prop but I know it had the diameter reduced. (I'll get that tomorrow)

With this combination of boat type and NR 5port and 50% fuel and the H7, the motor seems to be close to a balance between too much prop and peaking on RPM too soon. I think the full blade 1450 may be too much blade area for this combo but I haven't tried it yet.

I am becoming confident that the pitched up 1445, the H6 or 7, will be the right combination for this setup.

More test reports coming soon.

Thanks guys!
