Guys ,I rebuilt a 21 hawk last winter and have not had much testing time and what i have found is it works best on an H4 .I have another h4 with more TE cup and more pitch and it runs on that pretty well also but seems to launch and pull the less pitched and cupped one the best .I can get some numbers off the props if that will help but i was wondering if there was another prop choice that i could try and i may even have one here .

The way the boat is setup now (and I am told to leave the strut depth and angle where it is)it will spin a 1445 like crazy but no faster and it will not pull the H4

The boat weights 4lbs 10 oz with no fuel .

The engine is a NR 5 port and the pipe is an ops 3280 set at 3-1/8 from center of engine to the widest part of the pipe.

Maybe it is going as fast as it will go for the weight engine combo but i figure it is going maybe 57-60mph

My mentor must be racing so i thought i would post here to see what happens.

Thanks for reading

Terry,

An H-5 works well also, but you have to watch how much cup is in the blade

with that heavy of a boat. If you need the other H-4 cup reduced just send

it to me I will take care of it for you. 1445 @ 3.21" should work very well

also. I think the H-4 is still one of the best places to start on that set up.

Less cup and shorter pipe length will help with the speed. A 60 MPH 21 boat

that heavy is still running pretty well.

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Mark...he failed to mention that he is only running 50% nitro as well!

Terry, have patience. Wait until you get the boat in race water as well. If all else fails, we will get some 65% is it next weekend and see how she does!

N/R .21 Best use H-7 cut down 43.5mm to 44mm with profile will be fast someone will charge expensive for cut profile. It is good worth Good Luck!

Rick , i will leave it alone until you get to see it next weekend .I would like to get your thoughts.

mark here is what i have for props from you.

info taken from the cards in the plaztic bags.

1445-2.57 of t.e. cup and 2.43 of c.o.b. pitch 45.73 mm seems to rev higher and no speed increase

h4 3.10 """ 2.37 """ 45.15mm seems to like this one the best.

h4 3.46 """ 2.50 """ 44.74 mm this one will work but launches a little harder and i cannot see and difference in speed with the naked eye.

my pipe is at aprox 7.5" around the bend or 3-1/8" from center of engine to widest part of the pipe (depending on how you measure)

Thanks guys and i will not make any adjustments until someone like rickhas a look at it or i can reach steve.

Hi Terry,

I am no expert, but the Hawks I see racing are running H7 or 1450. I am not sure how modded the 1450's are but they are running them. The Racers I know that are running a NR with ops3280 and a 1450 are not really going any shorter than 8" they are all right around 8 1/8". I am running the same engine pipe combo in my FF and my boat is just a hair over 4lbs (I will weigh and let ya know) but my best speed is 65mph and very consistent. At this point its just in my opinion a few small setup changes and maybe going faster or maybe I am reaching the full potential for a boat this weight.

What is meant by cut "profile"?

THanks

Ron

That's just Allan's way of saying the propeller profile you want might cost $50 or so, contact Mark S on these forums, he will set you up with exactly what you need, so long as you tell him exactly what you have. Iv learned that dealing with Mark, he just needs the facts, if your engine is worn, or your boats heavy, he needs to know.

My suggestion is to contact Gary Purusse who is the King of the Hawk he will provide all your info you need to go fast. I also know Steve Ball is also a fast Hawk guy you mite try either one of these guys for help. Jerry
