I'm torn. It was basically a 5 boat weekend, which is both a) bad, because it's evidence this sport is limping due to lack of resources and interest, and 2) good because a majority of heats had a hard battle for 1st and 2nd place which came down to the last lap.
I know I've seen Chip Hanauer bring it up in the past, but maybe it really is time to dump the turbines. The T55 is still in production, Honeywell owns it now as the T55-714 making almost 5,000hp. But chatter in the pits says that the Peters & May team lost $70,000 when their engine popped on Saturday. several years ago the DRRA got the Offshore teams to come in, and they were running twin 1300hp V8s. And I was poking around on Mercury Marine's racing pages and now they have 1650 hp, 9.0L V8s. Wouldn't a pair of those be powerful enough (and loud enough) to bring back the concept of the Thunderboat?
