Many you may have already heard that I am working on one of the possible locations to hold the 2007 nats to be held in District 9. The location is Lake Cunningham in San Jose, CA at a water slide theme park called Raging Waters. The theme park will be in close proximity of the pits and faces the lake so the racing will be directly in the line of site of park visitors providing exposure to 2 to 5000 spectators a day.

Although, the city has approved the event their are a few critical details that may dictate whether we choose to have it their or not.

One of my goals with this site is to make sure that our "out-of-town" guest our well accomodated. Just like at any of the events that Tag Team is involved with we see each entry as a customer and our goal is to provide the best service and experience to our customers as possible.

In saying this I want to introduce a concern of mine regarding the event and I will consider your input as to how I might address it.

Although it is not definitely either way at the moment the city of San Jose has yet to provide us with firm answer on the availability of overnight occupancy for RVs at the park. This park is not open overnight however I requested it to accomodate those of your from out of town that may wish to do so.

In any market research the best way to get the answer is to ask those whom the issue might effect.

So, to be clear the question is...

1. How critical is it to have overnight RV camping at a National Championship event?

2. Would you choose not to come to an event if RV parking were not available?

At this point I am only interested in your answer in regards to a National Championship event.

Thank you in advance for your input.

NOTE: In case this may influence your opinion, there are three hotels in a busy community full of plenty of stores and restuarants, right off the main freeway, on the same street as the park less than a mile away.

Rodger,

First of all I would like to thank you for ALL of your hard work putting on "The Grand Prix" and all of the research that is involved in this & other projects that you work on.

I for one would be staying in an R/V at the 2007 nats. (just got a vintage airstream trailer) :)

Don :)

I would not consider a trip to Calif w/o my motorhome and trailer. It just makes racing alot easier to stay right at the race site. And to stay in Vegas en route!

Thanks Scott,

Don't beleive I have had the pleasure of making your acquaintance but I wish I could do something to get you to make it to this event. If we are able to pull it off it is my vision to make this the greatest R/C event ever. You might just want to grab your favorite boat buy a ticket and come hang out anyway. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Thanks Don,

I we may have bitten off more than we can chew as me and Alfred will have both the Grand Prix and the Nats if this goes through. We have the Mayor of Fremont working with us to move the Grand Prix as well. It will also be at a place that is much more accessible to spectators. There is some talk of turning into a type of winter festival with the R/C boat race as an attraction.

I hope we are able to accomodate you and your new RV. Thanks for your input.

Rodger: I would come for sure. San Jose is only 5 1/2 hours from Oregon and I would stay at any of the near by motels.

Hope it all comes together. I think it would be a Great Nationals site.

Rodger: The paint job you did on my SGX still looks Great. Thanks again for the assume paint job!!

Cool. I am glad the paint job is still holding up. I thought I saw pic of it with a newer cowl. Did you loose the last one. That is common though. I have lost two or three myself.

Roger; the last Namba nats I went to was 1973! I was talking to my friend Kelly G. the other day and although we both have RVs I believe we will be there at a hotel! cause at 3.25 a gallon I don't think it will be very cost effective to tow from north of seattle @9mpg When I can tow the race trailer behind my toyota at 25+ mpg. Fuzzy math say's that goes Quite a way's towards the hotel bill. Greg Roth

Roger

I'll be at the host hotel. Good luck with all the preparations. District 9 is always a class act at the Nationals.

Roger, when I heard your team that host the Grand Prix was involved in the 2007 NAMBA Nationals to say I was excited was an understatement. I will be there in a hotel. As to your question. We have had nationals in the past that did not allow overnight camping. Is there a location that allows RVs within a 30-45 min drive? Most important to me is that we have it in a location that provides good race water that at that time of year we are most likely to not have high wind and rough water. Your skills in promotions and getting our sport exposure is unprecedented and with the possibility of the kind of exposure you are anticipating I would think that the people that stay in RVs could drive in each day the same as those of us staying in hotels.

Roger,

As Eric said, "good water & no wind" are paramount to a great race site, R/V-camping at the site would be nice but not necessary. As long as a R/V-camp site is near by. Besides if the temps get in or near 100 deg. I would want full hook-ups ( sewer, water & electric ) probably not available at the race site.

Don :)

ps getting to like my comfort more than "roughing it " :D :D :D

I just got in on this as just got back from a race about an hour ago. Let me assure you that we are trying to make this as comfortable and convenient as possible for everyone to come here. We would just like to get a gauge of the feeling of the possible racers that are coming thay may want to bring RVs and whether or not we may be able to accommodate them and how many. We'd hate to insufficiently plan for this. I personally planned to leave my RV at home to make room for someone coming from a long distance. If we do have to employ a campground in the area then we have to figure out how to get you to and from the site as well.

I have no doubts about the race site of course the weather is always a wild card. Rest assured that anything that we can control will be handled so all you have to worry about is racing.

As I am handicapped I would like to place my 25 ft self contained trailer in the pits like I did at the recent NATS. I did notice that I was the only one there from start to finish. There was one medium length motor home that came and went, I presume on the days that he was scheduled to race. Hope this helps, Perry

You know we always shoot for the stars but this one we will be shooting for another Galaxy.

Handicap access has been considered but now your input let's me know that it needs to taken into serious consideration. If there is anyone else with disabilities planning to attend and reading this post please make yourself known. Perhaps we will make a place on the entry form to alert our committee of this as well.

I like the feedback that I am getting I didn't mention that I checked to see if there were any RV parks in the area and I found three. I will research them further to get more details.

How about this question.

I am trying to negotiate the use of 2 Gas powered retreive boats. I started with 4 and received a counter comment on possibly 1 electric and 1 Gas, although we are still negotiaiting. My dad thinks this is doable. What do you all think? It is a fairly sizeable lake. probably close to legg lake with no islands.

2 always worked well at Legg. Even when we had the monster nats of 96. 1000 boats in 8 days. I believe they ran 66 heats on the longest days. That was a heat every 10 mins. The 2 gas outboards help immensely in getting through the heats.

Mike

PS

I will voluntier to run a boat one of the days.

My question is would think it should be a deal killer if we had to go with one gas and electric. Just looking for the threshold.

Roger

I wonder why the city father,s are so concern,ed about two-three or four gas power,ed retrieve boats when there will be 80 plus gas boats running very day for a week

Plus the retrieve boats will not wind up upside down in the water ?????????

I think it's just Big City Beuracracy. San Jose just over took Detroit in population size and you know big city employees.... If they don't drag out every decision that tthey possibly have to make they could not justify their salaries or position.
