It seems that Futaba is the popular choice with boaters, but I have a 2.4 GHz Sanwa radio and am wondering if anyone else uses it for boats and whether there have been any problems with signal issues as what was experienced with Spektrum?

Cheers

Tim

I am a long-time Airtronics user (since 1980's), never experienced any functional issues (at least using pre-2.4Ghz gear).

Now I'm looking to get back to racing, considering purchasing a new Airtronics M12 2.4Ghz radio system. Also considered Futaba as well:

I still own a collection of older Airtronics radio's and respective airborne gear. I'm thinking (since much of this gear is in excellent condition) continuing to use the older systems in my older boats (since the radio compartment is dimensioned for older servo's, etc.,...).

My Airtronics CS3W radio's (Tx's) are pre-narrow-band spec, they will have to be re-aligned to be legal.

I'm not aware of Spektrum experiencing reception issues?

david, the first generation of spektrum 2.4 did have issues in boats. they have since corrected this in the newer models.

Convert your old radios to 2.4g. Cost less than $30 and all functions will work.
I got a quote from Tony Stillman, President, Radio South, Inc., Brunswick, GA (a long-time, highly experienced radio technician)-

$200.00 per Tx unit to upgrade to 2.4Ghz. Does Airtronics actually do this? If so cheaper?

Tony quoted $15.00 per Tx unit to narrow-band.

Dave,

Tony does great work, but in this case the limiting factor may be what type of receiver you can use. Radio South had been using Xtreme Power System 2.4 components that work great in heli's, planes & cars but unless their new style receivers are out they had problems in on the water applications.

Thanks, John

appreciate your input. I will probably just do narrow-band and use with regular AM & FM analog receivers (for my old boats).
