Anyone have any knowledge on the 19T motors? Who makes the best one ect? It has to be one that can be purchased, not made up with Neo magnets ect.

thanks

Steve

Steve,

Last time I heard almost everyone was runnin a Trinity Chameleon in that spec class.

Great question for Jay Turner, but don't know if he frequents this board.

All the best,

Ray

What spec is IMPBA using for 19 turn motors? NORRCA specifies 24 degree fixed timing, while ROAR has adopted ARCOR rules which allow variable timing. I'd go with variable timing if it's legal, but if you have to abide by the 24 degree rule, the Chameleon 2 is probably your best bet. Compared to other fixed timing 19 turn motors the powerband is a little more suitable for on water use. If they will allow it, the new Reedy quad magnet 19 turn shows promise on the dyno. Got my hands on a pair of 'em last week and will let you know how they tune up.

All I know is that last Sunday I saw Steve Reesor race his N2 rigger using a Trinity Ti modified motor (from none other than Ed Hughey) on a Hughey gearbox and 6 cells and it was downright ballistic (easily the equal of any BL set-up that I've ever seen). Now it was not 19 turn (I believe it was 9 turns) but the quality of the motor (and Steve's prep, design, etc, etc) spoke volumes.

If it's specifically the "spec" 19 turn motor you are asking about, our club uses the Trinity Chameleon as it's 6 cell spec motor with great success.

It states....

O-1 will be using a Chameleon type spec motor. 24 degrees, locked timing.

So as long as it meets the same criteria, it's legal. I think the Reedy is best but I am not certian. It's ran on 8 cells in the IMPBA time trials.

Oh, the rules are here. http://www.impba.com/index3.html

Sounds like the rules are very non-specific..... a "Chameleon type spec motor" would seem to imply a fixed 24 degree timing and a 19 turn arm. Outside of that, since nothing is specifically prohibited, you've got a lot of tuning leeway. Chameleon iterations included both standup and laydown brushes, I'd go with the standups for torque, unless you are able to fine tune a prop to match the powerband. The car guys have these motors refined to the point where they are almost as fast as the open mods, but then they have gearing to play with...... ;)

Long

That is a FE boat design. Paul P is running a NINJA and got the plans form me on the boat when i designed it about 3 years ago. He has been making slight changes to the design and it just keeps geting better.

He runs his brushless.
