Hi all

So the jae is nearly finished. Was going to put the engine in it today however the pull start on the engine is not allowing the mount plate to be screwed on.

I hope i am not the only one using a buggy engine in one (these are advertised that you can use a buggy engine)

So my question is, how do i mount it with the pull start on?

If i cut the back plate and remove the pull start, will the shaft out the back of the back plate be ok to just hang about?

thanks

the shaft shouldn't be an issue, as it should be sealed. most pull starts (all that i know of) don't seal anything. or, maybe there is a "normal" back plate available for the engine. what engine are you using? you want to remove the pull start, so i'm assuming you know about the zipp/solinger flywheel available for sg style cranks.....

If you want to retain the pullstart, you can carefully trim the Solinger mount to clear it.

It takes a fair amount of material away, but I have done it on 2 of my JAE 12's.

We are working on a new 12 mount that will clear pullstarts and tiger drives too...

Hi all

I have a choice of 2 engines. The problem i have faced with both of them is that i was worried about taking too much meat away from the solinger.

I have a .15 "colt" wich is some no name brand engine i was going to have a play with ( i want to learn how to do basic port mods) and i also have an os .15cv wich is a little old but has not done any work.

On the colt engine i grinded away the back plate to clear it.

I am happy to loose the pull start. Is it ok to cut the rear pull start shaft back? you know, the one that sticks out when i take off the pullstart. the shaft that the pull start one way bearing sits on?

This place is great when you ever need a hand.. Love this forum!!!

Joe, got your email about the flywheel's too.. The solution worked.. Thank you!

Soz, cant seem to get the pics of it uploaded.. It keeps telling me "Error No file was selected for upload".. Even tho i had selected a pic and waited for it to upload.

chris, shouldn't be an issue to trim the shaft. i would remove the back plate & take the shaft out to do it, that way you don't chance damaging the bearing or bushing that is in the back plate supporting the shaft. if it's like most i've seen, inside it's a disc with a slot that the crank pin fits into. the shaft you see outside is either attached to the disc, or all machined out of one piece. you could just remove it entirely & plug up the hole, but that would increase crankcase volume, & decrease performance. if you could post some dimensions of the back plate, maybe someone on here knows of a non pullstart back plate for that engine. need od where it fits in case, bolt spread & depth (including pull start shaft/disc) into case.

Again, this site is awesome..

Ok so i decided on the ****** colt motor i have to cut the shaft. Job done.

From what i understand and have scene, they have no seal what so ever.

I am on the look out for a back plate for the os 15 cv.

Any ideas where i can get one that will fit?

Thank you for all your input.. im hanging to get it ready.

Still cant add pics???? I would love to show you the build

ok so now i have realised i need to set up the throttle cable.. how do you set it up so it does not get in the way of the starting band?

ive tried flipping the carb, the whole hokey pokey

A few pics or some help would be awesome PLEASE!!!!!
