I was wondering if anyone has tried using 0.150" flex cable in a 21 rigger instead of 0.187"? Is it strong enough? Will it wind up and shorten too much?

I use .150 cable on my P-Limited riggers...anything with more power and I move to .187. I would say with Nitro (if that's what you run) you would be fine using .150 with a stock .21 motor...modded .21's I would step up to .187 to be on the safe side. Whatever you do, just keep the flex lubed. I personally use Grim grease and then I drizzle good 'ol 3n1 oil over that...slick as snot and I have yet to break a .150 flex...knock on wood...
I also use a Teflon liner for .150 cable and no teflon liner for .187...1/4" stuffing tube with .150 teflon liner...pull the liner out of the 1/4" stuffing tube and you can pop in .187 cable with no liner....basically you can use both without changing the stuffing tube...that way you can run a stock or switch to a Modded motor with no worries!!

BTW...get with Tim (2nd post on this thread) for flex cables...great service from Tim!!

I have been watching a couple of friends break .150 shafts in P class riggers. They broke 4 shafts and lost props at the same time. We put .187 shafts in the boats and the problem went away. The boats are running good and fast as a good 21 rigger. I think that the .150 shaft is ok for a store bought boat that does not have the power to snap a shaft. But when you start working with good P motor setups in a rigger you need to step up .187 shafts. Leave the little stuff for the toys.
