Here’s what my “thunderboat” looks like now

I’ve been an RC Boater for a long time with a 20 year break in the middle. I used to race nitro, but when I decided to get back in, I chose gas, with the plan to ease back into nitro ( which is about to happen with my new project). This was in 2021. I had zero experience with gas so I was right...

    FUTABA USA

Man this is a great list. I don’t think I could add anything . Affordable waterproof servos capable of handling higher voltage and waterproof receivers as well would be big steps in the right direction. I LOVE some of the other ideas too though.

However you get water to the motor is fine. These days, I just run my silicone water line straight through the transom using some type of grommet, rubber or otherwise, or I’ll install a grommet through the “bait box” or non-radio rear compartment of my sport hydros and riggers. Then I just take...

    Props Wanted COCR - CC3+5

Unless you can find one on here, Dave Pillado is your guy. [email protected]. You might have to wait a bit, he gets them from Australia. I use one of these on my Slingshot and it’s a good prop. Depending on water conditions, I have two others, the +2 and +7. In choppy water the +7 is...

Here’s what my “thunderboat” looks like now

Some days are like that, especially when you are new to gas boats. I was in the same place. You won’t even think about some of this stuff once you’ve been on the lake a few times. Friendly reminder, don’t forget to drill out your water inlets on the cooling cap to 1/8”. Check the exhaust...

Do what you want but I wouldn’t be concerned with the servo going back there . Whatever you do, enjoy the process, don’t stress out over it. She’ll run for sure!

I am assuming that it’s the WALBRO WT-257 on the needle settings. It should be marked on the carb. Different carbs will have different settings but the 257 is the most common on stock tboat motors.

Sometimes you have to walk away for a minute, or a day, or whatever. The side the carb goes on is the intake side. The black piece that’s mounted there is the intake manifold. It mounts with two screws and there’s a gasket between the motor and the manifold. Then there’s another gasket and...

Yes I do play guitar. Doing that right now actually. Mostly rock and classic rock. All the little stuff at the end of the build winds up taking longer than you think. Then you have to seal the inside and outside, put the boat on the jig and get the decks on. THEN it’s time to paint.

You will get it worked out. And once you’re running you’ll probably change one or more things. I can’t tell you how much I’ve racked my brain over stuff like this but I don’t need to tell you, you’re an airplane guy right? I noticed you’re from Charlotte. I was down there last September...

    Just farting around!

I bet it’s that leaf guard stuff or maybe something to keep critters out of your soffits or attic… Cool thanks!

Overall weight and CG are important when building a boat but try not to overthink them. Have I in the past? Yes, guilty, but I don’t worry about them like I used to. Build your boat as light as you can without sacrificing strength and durability. As long as you are not puddling epoxy all over...

That looks really cool! I like that material you used for your vents. What is that? The vents are simple but functional and cool looking.

Phil Thomas Stealth 45 Turn Fin Mounting Location

Got the fin mounted. The bracket is square to my work table so the 90 deg is covered. I put a straight edge on the fin (obviously fin is off in the pic) and the sponson bottom and drew a line. I’d say we are in there as far as being aligned with the inside sponson edge! I also got the drive...

The pipe does get hot. Just make sure to make sure that the heat can escape. I think that boat has vents cut in the side which would help. You can maybe put some vents in the cowl as well. As far as the servo proximity, all you can do is try it. If it starts melting the plastic on the case...

They make hi torque servos that are standard size. The Savox 1210 SG waterproof servo gives you all you need and more. But they will run you 100.00. Good servos. I’ve never had one fail. The Pro Modeler DL270DLHV is one I’ve recently installed in my Backlash Sport Hydro. The features seem...

    Sold 1/6th Gas Scale hull.

I mean, my Lauterbach is pretty consistently about 62 mph with a stock 26 Zen so I can see one pushing a scale along as well. Heck it would be a cheap way to keep you racing on a given weekend if you kept a stocker as a backup especially if you’re in a points series.
