    Hydroplane C/G Starting Point

And that's where the fun starts, where to put the motor, radio gear and such. If you're doing a 1/8th scale boat, the turn fin is generally 1.5 to 2" behind the sponson. Sport 20s and 40s are closer, gas scales similar to 1/8th scale or slightly further back. With that said, I have to agree...

    Turn Fin Location

When you secure the bracket, be sure to keep the straight section of the blade vertical. The curl also needs to be parallel with the bottom or, if that's hard to judge, with the boat's attitude when running. Both of these are important in setting up the boat.

UPDATE on the 5 1/2 ft Atlas Van Line Fiberglass Hydroplane Kit

One recommendation I would make is to put drains in the bottom of the cross pieces. This will prevent water from being trapped around the engine rails since water will get inside the boat.

Pro boat formula hydro 1/12 nitro

The boat is very tail heavy so you will probably need to rebalance it.

    OUCH!

Need help for best methods to fill an area (Fiberglass cowling)

That's one of the things primer is for, to see if the surface looks good or not. I'd use a rattle can primer for this step since it's inexpensive and will show how well you did.

    Scam email

Same scam as one several years ago, though the last one asked for cash. Had I guy I knew that got "hacked" and everyone on his email directory got an email that said he was in Africa, on an emergency trip, and needed the money to get home. Problem is that I had seen him two days earlier and...

Happy New Year & GO DAWGS

While l will agree that it was a hard-fought game, and I will agree that Michigan had the better game plan, I also feel the ACC refs let too much go. There were at least five times the Michigan safeties and corners should have been called for holding or pass interference and weren't. These...

Happy New Year & GO DAWGS

It may not be New Years Day, but it is time for a big GO DAWGS!!!! in the National Championship game

    Shaft Oiler or Grease?

I've always used lithium grease, never had a problem. Then again, I don't use a collet on my scale boat, I use a floating shaft with a ferrule at the stub shaft so tightening a collet isn't an issue.

    Doug Kirk

That is sad to read. I talked to him several times at races the past few years, was always great to talk to.

Happy New Year & GO DAWGS

And, in a nail biter, the Huskies get the win and move on to the National Championship, playing Michigan. Should be a great game next Monday

Happy New Year & GO DAWGS

Just a quick Happy New Year to everyone and a pre-Sugar Bowl shout out to the University of Washington Huskies. As I said in the title, GO GET UM DAWGS!!!!!

UPDATE on the 5 1/2 ft Atlas Van Line Fiberglass Hydroplane Kit

Sorry, I have to agree with Rick on this one. Tails and wings need to be able to come off in the event of an accident. Hit a buoy, have an unexpected gust of wind or any one of several other things and you could end up upside down. Nylon screws are much more forgiving than other ways of...

    1/8 FE Questions

Here are some cut and pastes from the R/C Unlimiteds FE rule book that might help you out a bit: 2. Electronic Speed Controls (ESC) a. Any ESC may be used as long as it is rated to a minimum 130 Amps and rated to handle a minimum of 8s battery configuration. b. Anti-spark resistors are advised...

    ICE vs Ohms law

One thing no one has mentioned yet is that an ICE powered boat can limit where you run. In my area, many of the lakes and ponds do not allow fuel powered boats, noise and pollution being the reasons given. FE removes the restriction since, relatively speaking, FE doesn't pollute(at least not...

How much pour foam is enough?

Thanks for the response. I hadn't heard of that before, so I was curious.

How much pour foam is enough?

Is that the paper based honeycomb? If so, Stephan is basically talking about building panels for aircraft since that's how it's done, less the CF

    Wing strut size

I like it!!! Looks really good. I would have done it slightly different for that set up . I would have gotten some .150 rod in either 6061 or 7075 as it's stronger than what K&S has. It's a bit harder to thread as well but it wouldn't bend quite as easy. The reason for the .150 is that it is...
