    Masking tape

Thanks all for your replies. I bought the masking tapes from a auto paint supply store, not the Walmart. I used the crepe type tape for general purpose masking and also to attach paper to cover large areas. The Fineline tape is used for masking trim color etc. They have worked very well and...

    Masking tape

John, I did burnish the tape down but the paint still creep under the tape. I think the paint dissolved some of the adhesive leaving a thin soft gummy edge.

    Masking tape

I found out the hard way that there is actually a shelf life for masking tapes. I have some 3M Fineline masking tape where the adhesive turned gummy after 10 years but I used it anyway. Lots of bleeding under the tape. I want to continue my several projects but I am not sure when the paint...

What kind of boat is this?

I still have mine. I bolted a 7.5 OB to the transom. With a X447 it would probably run in the high 40 there. It can survive some rough waters and is a fun boat to play with when it is too windy for my sport 40s.

    Klass Kote Greens

I have been using SS spoons I picked up at a Dollar store. I bought different sizes down to tea spoon. I use one for the paint and another one for the catalyst. Then I put thinner in a small glass bottle and clean both spoons in it. The thinner will be used to thin the paint. There is very...

    Klass Kote Greens

It was finally warm enough to do some painting today. The 3M masking tapes I have are over 10 year old. The tapes feel harder than they should be. Painting supplies are not considered essential business so I decided to use what I have. It did not turn out too well. Lots of bleeding under...

Who made the first production O/B Tunnel?

I still have a Dumas Hot Shot (the glass one after the original blunt nose) that I am building now. I bought it in the early 80's. I like the sort of scale open cockpit look. But I do not like the cowl. I went through the trouble of making a plug, and molded a few cowls for the boat. The...

I agree to everyone's comments and will not be using Rustoleum on the AVL scale that I am building. I would not even try it on a Sport 40. But I have a perfect project and will be trying it tomorrow if it is warm enough. Bought the Rustoleum 2X black. The bottle said primer + paint. I will...

    New boater needs help

I would say it is the prop. And if the image was not flipped in the video, it looked like the guy had a right hand prop.... Edit: I meant to say the prop was put on reversed

    Lettering with border

Here is what I am going to try. I am laying a frisket film over the Coors lettering. Then trim around it leaving a 1/8" border. My plan is to lift the frisket + graphics and place it on the boat. Then I will spray the black paint. Since the boat has been painted white, the frisket film...

    Back in the day......relived!

Mark, while we all agreed that the luan door skin Dumas used are inferior, they are actually lighter than 1/8" birch ply. I've seen some Luan door skin used balsa in the middle ply. The main issues are voids in the middle layer and they are soft. I have started using Occume marine ply in my RC...

Yes, I drill and seal the holes before painting. In fact, I sleeve the engine rail holes by gluing a piece of K&S brass tubing.

Who made the first production O/B Tunnel?

So I remembered the name correctly. It's Klampon Kai. You can find product review here... https://rclibrary.co.uk/files_titles/2382/RCM_1979_01_January_partA.pdf

Who made the first production O/B Tunnel?

I think it was the Klampon Kai or something. I remember drooling all over the kit box at the local hobby shop back then...

    Back in the day......relived!

Nice Pak there. You may be able to rotate the muffler end caps and have the exhaust point upward. Good to know I am not the only one who still collect Dumas kits. Here are my Drag N Fli. The original .20 shovel nose was my first hydro that I built in late 70's. I then started the pickle...

    Need a retrieval boat

Exactly what happened to me many years ago... Luckily, the inflatable had three chambers and the leak was slow enough for me to get back on shore

    Lettering with border

I am trying to cut the Coors light graphics. I have cut the Coors from a red vinyl sheet. The easy way to create the white border is to lay the Coors lettering on a white vinyl sheet and then cut with the proper amount of border. But this would make the lettering twice as thick. Is there a...

    Klass Kote Greens

Hi Jerry, I've been wanting to give rattle can a try. I hate cleaning up the spray equipment. My boat already has KlassKote white. I may actually use rattle can for trim colors and then clear over the whole thing with KlassKote. Does Rustoleum 2X work better than others? Is Rustoleum 2X an...

    Klass Kote Greens

Thanks for posting the photo Ray. I am looking for a brighter green. Almost like the Interstate Battery kind of green. I did see the medium green on their web page and it did not look quite like the color in your photo. K

I understand they custom mix colors but I am hoping i can get it in the standard color they offer. I am not sure if they can mix the same color consistently. Thanks, k
