Parts Wanted LF K&B 40 IB flywheel

It does not look like a .40 size engine to me. I do not believe K&B has ever offered a .40 size engine with a one piece crank case. It looks like a .67 mounted on a International Hobbies outboard

    Build thread: Cozy F1 T800 33" tunnel

Very nice work Dirk. I am thinking of making an outboard cowl as well but what I have in mind is to make a wooden plug and vacuum form. I figure it would be lighter and easier to replace should I break it. After seeing how you did yours I am now thinking of same. 80 gm/sq meter is about 2.3...

    K&B parts compatability

I believe these engines likely have 12mm cranks. Early K&Bs had no web on the mounting lugs as Robert has pointed out. Those engines had thinner sleeves. They later added the web to the mounting lugs. Your aero engine is front that vintage. After that, they filled in the exhaust flange...

Starting a Dumas AVL. Many questions

'Lowering the sponson' was incorrect. I was thinking in term of the boat sitting upside down on my work bench ;-) I actually meant lowering the tunnel floor by removing 1/8" from the sponson inside while keeping the same AOA and dihedral. I will then glue a strip of 1/16" ply in a similar...

Starting a Dumas AVL. Many questions

Mark, The Pak looked good. I see you replaced the door skin as well. In fact, I still have this kit in my collection. In the background of the attached photo is a 21 size Drag'n Fli. I have built all three sizes over the last 40 years. This one in the picture is the 4th 20 size that I have...

Starting a Dumas AVL. Many questions

Hi Rich, Thanks for the link to the thread. Lots of good information there. Looks like I am on the right track by eliminating the strut recess and not adding the sponson ride pads. In fact, I lowered the sponson by another 1/8" and will be adding a 1/16" strip on the inside surface. If you...

Starting a Dumas AVL. Many questions

Mike, Thanks for your detailed reply. I watched Scott Meyers' videos this morning on building a gas 1/6 scale hydro and picked up some useful tips. I could not find your article 'rigging a 8255 hull' however. If you can forward a link that would be great. On tuned pipes: Like you, I care...

Starting a Dumas AVL. Many questions

I have had this kit for many years and decided to start building it. The quality of the door skin that Dumas used for the frames is really poor. They are only good for templates. Since I have two sheets of Occume marine ply, I have decided to build the entire boat using the marine ply. It is...

    System 3 T-88 epoxy

Thanks all for your replies. I have ordered a 4 Oz size to start my build. I remember maybe 20 years ago, I could buy MAS epoxy at my LHS in 8 Oz size. But from their web page, MAS is only available in gallon size. k

    System 3 T-88 epoxy

A search on this forum did not show any past thread on System 3 epoxy. I am starting a new build soon and will need more epoxy. I prefer to buy the adhesive in 8 oz package to make sure they are always fresh. My local hobby shop only carries Bob Smith Industry and Great Planes epoxy. The...

    Shoe Goo

Ken, I use 1/2" tape like the one in the link that Mike posted. Last year I ran out and needed to mount two tanks so I could test my boat on the weekend. I bought a roll of 1/2" tape from Walmart. It was not 3M. Something really inexpensive. I would have been happy if the tape held up for...

    Shoe Goo

If you are using Shoe Goo to glue nylon fuel tank to the hull, I have found that standard 3M double sided mounting tape works very well and actually better than Shoe Goo. The tape holds strongly to the plastic tank while easily removable using dental floss.

    Build thread: Cozy F1 T800 33" tunnel

Very nice work Dirk. And very interesting technique for forming the cowl. Can you share how you keep the cloth on the mold without lifting while the epoxy cures? Thanks, k

    Sharrow propellers

Came across this: Interesting idea but I am not sure if will will work on RC boats. Imagine balancing one of these... k

    Paint removal!!

I have always used hobby type epoxy paint like Hobbypoxy, Super Poxy (when they were available) and Klass Kote on my boats. My experience with paint stripper is that it will soften polyester and epoxy glass if you let it sit on the part for too long. In fact, I have successfully used paint...

    Green Dragon U40

Very nicely built. Questions: How many layers of cloth did you use for the cowl? And how did you remove the foam? I have never tried removing the foam with solvent and am wondering if the foam would turn into a goo Thanks, k

    Cricut cutter

Is the black stripe with Zipp kit.com done in Cricut vinyl? Did you start with a black vinyl and weed out the letters? Can you tell me how you did the 'Aeromarine Conquest"? I would like to know how you did the Conquest. You will need a carrier sheet to lift the letters with the black...

    Cricut cutter

Thanks Brandon , for the tips. I almost bought the Explore 2 yesterday but the information on the box is limited. It is good to know that the newer machines do not have a length limit. The biggest project I have lined up is a 55" Dumas Scarab. So I will definitely get the new machine. Can...

    Cricut cutter

I saw these Cricut cutters on sale at Michaels and really want to get one. Has anyone had any experience with these machines? Other than using them to make decals, I am hoping I can cut pin stripes in the width I want. Is it easy to use? Will it take other trim sheets such as the Monokote...

Parts Wanted Looking for Kwik Stripe 1/8 gold

I, too, have been looking for striping tape and have not been able to find the quality and the width I want. Most auto part stores in my area do not carry them anymore. ANd if I can find some old stock, they are thicker than I like. The best tape that I have ever used were the ones offered by...
