I got my best speeds with the stock motor with an x447 and prather 225

first run on a cmb .67

I had this problem with my cmb 45 that I bought used. Turned out that the rear bearing was bad....I replaced the bearings and it lit right up. I also replaced the gasket, and no more fried plugs on every run. The bad bearing was letting air in...leaning the motor. Is your motor brand new?

    Pipe length?

I've got a cmb 45 purple head and was told to aim for 9.5".

What to do with this pipe...

I dont know the brand and am not sure where to take my measurement to get the length around 9.5". This is for an OS .46.

Interesting, this is new to me...to not solder the motor end of the flex shaft

Thanks! I have seen that modification too. I wonder if a small piece of silicone tubing could be used in place of the collar....

Yea, the boat originally had a 67 or larger motor and 1/4" shaft. I put in a 45 with 3/16" shaft.

It looks that way from these pictures....I should have taken a shot from the front of the collar. Where the set screw locked on was at the very end of the weld and the flex shaft broke just ahead of the collar....maybe 1/32"-1/16". At first inspection, I too thought that the set screw had...

Snapped a flex shaft today. Thanks to a drive dog I modified, my prop didn't get kidnapped.

    CMB 45 burning plugs

Alright, got the motor running good this weekend after replacing the bearings. The rear bearing was the culprit. Thanks to everyone!

    CMB 45 burning plugs

The leaning happens the same way every time. There is definite hesitation on the beach with no load on the prop....wont get on the pipe. Then it will come up to to speed when thrown in the water. It'll do about a half lap then it will sag for a few seconds, then pick back up for a few...

    CMB 45 burning plugs

Howdy All, Thanks for all the replies! Lot's of great info from all of your experience. I ran today on 15% fuel and a x646/3blade and low an behold, one plug lasted through all runs this afternoon. Ok, got one obstacle out of the way...however, the motor is still leaning out on the top end...

    Aeromarine

Yea, middle of the week is when I've had the best luck contacting them on the phone....around 10-11am eastern time...which means I have to get up early (I live in San Diego). Sometimes their phone is busy for days on end, but that is usually monday-tuesday.

    CMB 45 burning plugs

Hey Allen, Yea, I understand that it is not a high quality race fuel, but I don't see how it alone could be causing the problem I'm running into

    CMB 45 burning plugs

lol, yea. It's getting plenty of flow...like I said, after a run, the head has never been hotter than 130-140 deg

    CMB 45 burning plugs

I'll try out running one tank. I may be interested if a bearing change does not solve this problem.....hell, I may just scrap this project if the bearings do not solve it.

Hey Shann, Is "any" flywheel movement too much? 1/64"? 1/32"? thanks
