To my fellow RC Boaters,
I apologize if this is not appropriate to make this post but I wanted to make folks aware of something I've been dealing with as of this morning. I will let the ADMINISTRATOR decide what to do with this post as again I just meant for this to be informative in an effort to protect myself and my fellow modelers from what appears to be another scam. If you notice I have a post on here I've created recently as I'm looking for NovaRossi "ToBe" engines specific to the .46 / .67 /.91 varieties (focusing on the .67). Late last evening I received a text message from a number as follows: 931-771-1889 and the seller claims to have a NIB N/R .67 for sale. I first noticed the text message early this morning and responded with interest. Right away the seller requested I provide funds thru PayPal (as Friends and Family) which I have no problem doing but I just need to know the seller is legit and the deal is for real etc. The seller has never identified themselves and refuses to do so. Actually the way the conversation went (text) was he asked me what my PayPal info was, shipping address etc., never disclosing a price for the item. I finally replied asking what he wanted for the engine and he replied to "make a reasonable offer" so I responded with $300 then he responded with $350 for the engine (shipped). I then asked if he had a header and pipe for it to be included and he responded "sure" but again refuses to provide any further detailed information regarding photos or who or what he is etc. I don't know if this person is real or not and at this point I don't believe I'm over-reacting in any way shape or form. I responded to his text and said feel free to give me a call, no response. The seller added that he should've responded on the forum but is unable to do so, not explaining why in any way shape or form.
All that said: If someone on here recognizes this phone number as being a legit source then please lmk. If this person is real and the intent is real then I apologize in advance but man it sure seems "fishy" to me.

My point is simply: If a deal seems weird then its probably not a real deal and someone is trying to scam funds from you. In this case I offered to cover the PP fees etc. etc. etc but the seller continues to demand F/F and will not identify or provide any images of the item alleged to be for sale.

Anyone that knows me on here and has done business with me knows I'm a no BS buyer, I provide quick payments and a seamless no hassle transaction. Simply stated: I try to treat people the way I wish to be treated.

In summary: "Be Careful" out there folks, you never know what's out there or someone's intent.

If the seller is not willing to provide his full name, or other boaters that may know him to vouch for him as being legitimate, then pass.

I have done this in the past and as long as someone who is on IW will vouch for the seller then it’s no deal. Period.

The fact that you even responded to this person is not good.
You seem to already know that there is an ongoing problem with our site yet you continue to text with this person.
My advice to our members would be only deal with people you know , don't share information and limit your conversations to the IA site.

how do these scammers get your phone number to text you?

I would only give out my number through PM's

That phone number is noted as being a scammer on another RC based forum. Anytime I have a phone number that I may suspect, I Google it. I have been contacted by someone in the past on a Corvette forum. The "scammer" contacted me via text message asking for my shipping address and payment info WHILE I was in a conversation with the actual seller! BTW, the phone number on the Corvette forum that the text message was sent from, when doing a Google search, had several hits from multiple sites as being a scammer/thief.

I APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK

Well just my opinion, first red flag besides everything else would have been the price of the engine. I have a brand new one in box I wouldn't let go for less than $575,and putting your phone number out there it's just asking for unwanted solicitation, and no matter what anyone on this site may think ,all of our information has already been compromised it's just a matter of time...... just don't make it so easy.

Watch out, this sounds like the same person that scammed me out of $60. I paid for the item and never heard form this person again.

As I posted in this pinned thread-

https://www.intlwaters.com/threads/...ting-really-good-read-this-post-please.88330/

This is why the post is PINNED with read this please in the title.

Virtually everyone's info is in circulation on the dark web, addresses, SS#s, email addy's, all of it thanks to the massive breach in August 2023. Now all it takes is a name for these fraudulent sellers to make "offers" from outside of this forum. It's everywhere so be very careful. With that being said posts like these are becoming quite frequent and, in all honesty, not changing anything. At this point I will start a thread where you can report and/or share what has occurred if you feel the need to do so. Any further posts on this topic not shared on that pinned thread will be deleted as it drives members legitimate buy/sell posts down.

Tom please feel free to cut and paste your original post on the new scammers thread to get that thread rolling. This thread is being locked for further replies.
