JAE 33 FE Z-Strut doin’ the twist

Any input, recommendations or experience on a replacement for the Z-Strut on my JAE 33 FE rigger..? I hear the Speed Master 21/mono works well for this boat. Not much of an over-haul, have the room and would be much more solid.

Probably best to just put the right side bracket on there. Switching to a SpeedMaster flat bottom hydro strut will only help if you run both brackets. The brackets are also considerably wider which likely means it will interfere with your rudder pushrod and some notching will be required.

Single side brackets like you have now will all suffer the same lack of stiffness.

Throw that bracket away and make two from angle stock. Spread the load out.

Yeah, will make a new bracket(s), custom angles each side, problem solved. Had the blinders on……

The simple fix, one counter set screw/bolt thru the middle of the mount. Bomber now, no twist or flex. ZippKit’s needs to mod. that bracket, dbl sided, (4) bolts……..
