The "I" beam connecting rod; through hardened; tempered; with both holes align ground; & with no bushing in the upper end, allowing the rod to be lengthened to a maxium length of 1.741 center to center. The AISI S-7 shock resisting tool steel used, after hardening & tempering, has a 315,00 lbs/square in tensile strength; a 210,00 lbs/square in yield strength; is 58 Rc hardness & has a C-notch Charpy impact number of 224 ft. lbs. The rod has a .250 in dia. wrist pin with the upper outter dia. of the rod at .360 in. The connecting rod is .030 thick in the middle of the "I" beam with 16 caged rollers; 2 in each window. The maxium clearance in the bottom end is .0003 in; in top end .0001 in. The connecting rod runs forever at 32,000 to 35,000 rpm with no wear & a maxium of 8% oil. The connecting rod is guided in the upper end between the piston bosses with .005 in total clearance. The retainer, with two rollers per window, is made of full hard (Rc-60), C-350 Maraging steel. Its tensile strength is 350,000 psi making it the strongest part in the motor. Notice the two .3125 dia carbide slugs added to the crankshaft counter balance, which gives 33% of the total weight of the piston, pin, & connecting rod on the crankshaft coiunter balance.
