I believe this is Fred Gimbal with a Tom Daniels 3-D 44 inch Ruff Stuff

Fred Gimbal and Kevin Kayler and some of the guys were from Baltimore came to the race in Michigan and put a total whooping on everybody. They were doing that everywhere they went. The next year we had a racing team of about 12 guys with all 3-D boats and OPS engines and hit back pretty hard. 3-D boats got me a state national and world championship in 20 mono class.

At the IPBA Internat's in Columbiaville Michigan I beat Howard Hole from Hawaii. I had only entered the oval class I didn't know you were supposed to enter all of them anyways our boats were about equal I out drove him on the last curve in the neck and neck race to a standing ovation because there was such suspense. 3-D boats were ruling everything somebody posted the picture above it was brought up in the vintage mono post and somebody thought it was a bounty boat.

I'm almost positive that's Fred and that picture was actually in advertisement or a story in flying models magazine it could've been RC Modeler but I'm pretty sure it was flying models as I used to see Fred's boat in a lot of advertisements. He showed my brother how to set up chicken hopper design gas tanks for superior fuel flow in deep Vees and we could run endurance race a lot better than too. It was not required to pressurize a tank anymore either.

I also wrote an article in flying models on that race believe it was called the Grand River Regatta in Lansing Michigan I hit the bank and wound up in blew a rod with my OPS 21. Fun times all out dog eat dog competition I still have a lot of trophies from that boat the biggest being Buckeye 880 in Ohio I had to run without my radio cover because the battery was unplugged and we had to pull the radio cover at the last second and get the boat launched. Boat Ran right on the ragged edges of flipping all the time too. The boat was named the dirty rat It had an orange bottom and a white top my dad sold it to somebody down at progress pattern in Southfield Michigan it had a picture of a pencil drawing rat standing in a cloud of dirt with crumpled beer cans drinking a beer smoking a cigar. Fun times.
